You have questions. We have answers:

Who is Softgel Co.?

Softgel Co is a privately owned, FDA registered, Colorado-based contract manufacturing organization specializing in the softgel encapsulation of CBD oils. We have been a market leader in testing, formulating, manufacturing and encapsulation of hemp extracts since 2013.

How long has Softgel Co been in business?

Softgel Co. has over 7 years of dedicated CBD experience working with numerous forms of hemp extracts (isolate, distillate, full-spectrum, broad spectrum) and carrier oils to produce safe softgels, sprays and tinctures. During our 7 years in operation, we have manufactured over 200,000,000 CBD softgels.

How big is the facility?

Softgel Co’s State-of-the-Art Facility is:

  • 22,000 sq. ft. total
  • 8000 sq. ft. of climate-controlled Clean Rooms
  • 5000 sq. ft. of first floor warehousing
  • 5000 sq. ft. of second floor storage

Is the manufacturing facility certified?

Our state of the art 22,000 sq.ft. facility is GMP compliant and we will have both our GMP and NSF certification in 2020.

What materials does Softgel Co. require to manufacture a product?

A majority of the products we manufacture consist of a hemp concentrate (extract or distillate) combined with a carrier oil (and occasionally other ingredients). Customers have three general options for how they choose to source and provide these raw materials:

  1. A customer may send Softgel Co. preblended material (i.e. a formulation that has been mixed to its final specifications and is ready for encapsulation or bottling).
  2. A customer may send Softgel Co. individual raw materials, which we will formulate and mix to the customer’s specifications.
  3. A customer may choose to have their product manufactured using materials that Softgel Co. stocks in-house, which include full-spectrum extract from Colorado-grown hemp and either hemp seed oil or MCT oil.

What is the cost for softgel manufacturing?

We currently offer softgels in one size only (size 8 oval; 0.5 ml fill volume). While the theoretical yield per gallon is 7,570 softgels, we factor in a 7% production loss, giving an expected yield of 7,000 softgels per gallon. The minimum order quantity for softgels is 4 gallons, which will yield approximately 28,000 softgels.

Can Softgel Co. bottle and label?

Yes, we can bottle and label your softgels (or ship them in bulk). Our standard container offerings include a white HDPE 120cc and 75cc bottle with a white cap (with foam pressure seal), desiccant, shrink wrap around the cap and bottleneck, and date/product identifier coding. Customers may choose to provide their own bottles or caps (for which you would receive a credit). Alternative caps, seals, and other bottling options are available (e.g. heat induction seals, child-resistant caps, cotton filler), which will incur an added cost (please contact Softgel Co. for details). Softgel Co. does not print labels, so the customer is responsible for providing these. We do not recommend cotton stuffing in softgels. Labels must be peelable with top-quality backing paper. Please contact us for label printing specifications.

What do you need on your CBD label?

Please refer to this PDF for guidelines on label production.

What sizes does Softgel Co. offer for tinctures and what is the production cost?

We offer tincture bottles in volumes of 10 ml, 30ml, and 60ml. We can fill a customer-supplied 15ml bottle as well. The minimum order quantity for tinctures is 300 units. Tincture production cost is based in quantity. It includes amber glass bottles, glass droppers, shrink wrap around cap and bottleneck, labeling, date/product identifier coding. We factor in a 5% production loss.

Is there a cost for Softgel Co to create premixes?

A $200 formulation and mixing fee will be added to the production invoice.

What is the production lead time?

Our lead time is generally  6-8  weeks from the date we receive your raw materials with all required certificates of analysis. Failure to provide all required paperwork will increase turnaround time. If the COA is not with the raw materials the customer provides we will send out for testing from the third-party laboratories we contract with.

What is a COA?

Certificates of analysis (COAs) for each product they sell. A certificate of analysis (COA) is a laboratory report regarding the contents of a product. In the case of CBD, a COA will include cannabinoid content and other tested compounds, such as potency, residual, microbial, heavy metals, and pesticides. COAs ensure the customer knows exactly what is in the product they’re purchasing. Not only does this create transparency, but also ensures that the product contains exactly what it claims. A 2017 study found that almost 70% of CBD products sold online aren’t labeled correctly, having either considerably less or more CBD than advertised. CBD manufacturers should offer the most recent COAs of the products they provide. See the PDF link below.

We require COA’s for all oils and isolates coming from accounts and suppliers.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, abbreviated to “CBD”, is one of approximately 115 “phytocannabinoids” naturally occurring in hemp (cannabis) plants.

What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are a diverse group of chemical compounds naturally found in the human body (endo-cannabinoids) and also in cannabis plants (phyto-cannabinoids).

How do Cannabinoids work?

Cannabinoids interact with receptors of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) in the body to restore a normal state of healthy balance.

What are terpenes?

Terpenes are the primary constituents of the essential oils providing the scent and flavor of the plant. They may also have other functions such as protection of the plant.

What is the Entourage Effect?

The Entourage Effect results when the many components within the hemp plant interact with the body to produce a stronger influence than any one of those components alone—it’s a synergistic effect.

What is isolated CBD?

In chemistry, to “isolate “means to separate (a substance) into its purest form, free of other compounds. Isolated CBD is pure CBD without the presence of other cannaboids or terpenes.

What is Full Spectrum CBD?

Full Spectrum is often used to convey that the whole plant was used, not just stalk or stem. Whole cannabis sativa plant contains 480 phyto compounds including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and fatty acids.

What is Broad Spectrum CBD?

It means that it has the benefits of full spectrum without any of the concerns of THC. Broad Spectrum is a term our supplier coined to define a CBD extract that has concentrated levels of CBD, with no detectable THC.
