Who is Softgel Co.?

Softgel Co is a privately-owned, FDA-registered, GMP-certified Colorado-based contract manufacturing organization specializing in the softgel encapsulation of CBD oils. We are a market leader in testing, formulating, manufacturing and encapsulation of hemp extracts.

How long has Softgel Co been in business?

Softgel Co was started in 2013. The company is an experienced CBD manufacturer working with numerous forms of hemp extracts (isolate, distillate, full-spectrum, broad spectrum) and carrier oils to produce safe softgels, sprays and tinctures.

How big is the facility?

Softgel Co’s State-of-the-Art Facility is:
22,000 sq. ft. total
8000 sq. ft. of climate-controlled Clean Rooms
5000 sq. ft. of first floor warehousing
5000 sq. ft. of second floor storage

Is the manufacturing facility certified?

Our state of the art 22,000 sq.ft. facility is GMP certified.

What materials does Softgel Co. require to manufacture a product?

A majority of the products we manufacture consist of a hemp concentrate (extract or distillate) combined with a carrier oil (and occasionally other ingredients). All CBD must be received with an accredited COA,. We will do a potency test on the extract/premix and have the required testing done if not on the COA: Microbial, Heavy metals, Residual, Microtoxin and Pesticides).
Customers have three general options for how they choose to source and provide these raw materials:

  1. A customer may send Softgel Co. preblended material (i.e. a formulation that has been mixed to its final specifications and is ready for encapsulation or bottling). A fee for Homogenizing and filtering will be added.
  2. A customer may send Softgel Co. individual raw materials, which we will formulate and mix to the customer’s specifications.
  3. A customer may choose to have their product manufactured using materials that Softgel Co. stocks in-house, which include full-spectrum extract from Colorado-grown hemp and either organic or non organic hemp seed oil or MCT oil.

3. What is softgel manufacturing?

Our standard softgel (size 8 oval; 0.5 ml fill volume). While the theoretical yield per gallon is 7,570 softgels, we factor in a 7% production loss, giving an expected yield of 7,000 softgels per gallon. The minimum order quantity for softgels is 15 gallons, which will yield approximately 105,000 softgels.

We offer several sizes of softgels on our two machines:

10 Inch Encapsulate Machine - Bovine
.50ml oval
1 ml oblong
10 Inch Encapsulate Machine - Vegan
.50ml oval

We price all our softgel manufacturing by gallons. Please email or call for pricing.

Can Softgel Co. bottle and label?

Yes, we can bottle and label your softgels. Our standard container offering includes a white HDPE 120 cc bottle and a 75cc bottle with a white cap pressure seal, desiccant, and date/product identifier coding. Customers may choose to provide their own bottles or caps. Please email or call for bottling prices.

Alternative caps, seals, and other bottling options are available. Please contact Softgel Co for details. Softgel Co does not print labels, so the customer is responsible for providing these. Labels need to be tightly wound in style #4, (leading left edge.) We can give you a source for a label company if you need one. We will not accept labels from a sticker company. We also have boxing capabilities. Softgel Co will supply you with the box template.

Softgel Co has automated boxing for softgels, tinctures, and blister packs.

Does Softgel Co. manufacturer in bulk?

Softgel Co. manufacturers in bulk. There is a charge for shipping containers.

What do you need on your CBD label?

Please refer to this PDF for guidelines on label production.

What sizes does Softgel Co. offer for tinctures?

We offer tincture bottles in volumes of 10/15ml, 1 oz. and 2 oz. The minimum order quantity for tinctures is 640 units. Tincture production cost is based on quantity and includes amber glass bottles, glass droppers, shrink wrap around cap and bottleneck, labeling, date/product identifier coding. Please call or email for pricing.

What is the lead time?

Our guaranteed lead time is 6 weeks from the date we receive your raw materials with required certificate of analysis and any supplies provided by customer (bottles, caps and labels). Failure to provide all required materials will increase turnaround time. No finished products will be released until we receive test results from the third-party laboratories we contract with (this typically takes 5-7 business days).

What are the payment terms?

Payment is 50% due upon signed estimate and balance paid in full before an order will be shipped. Softgel Co. accepts checks and wire transfers. The customer is responsible setting up shipping and for shipping costs (we can ship on your FedEx or UPS account).

What is a COA?

Certificates of analysis (COAs) for each product they sell. A certificate of analysis (COA) is a laboratory report regarding the contents of a product. In the case of CBD, a COA will include cannabinoid content and other tested compounds, such as potency, residual, microbial, heavy metals, and pesticides. COAs ensure the customer knows exactly what is in the product they’re purchasing. Not only does this create transparency, but also ensures that the product contains exactly what it claims. A 2017 study found that almost 70% of CBD products sold online aren’t labeled correctly, having either considerably less or more CBD than advertised. CBD manufacturers should offer the most recent COAs of the products they provide. See the PDF link below.

We require COA’s for all oils and isolates coming from accounts and suppliers. Softgel Co sends out for a COA for all oils and isolates. This testing cost is reflected on your estimate and final invoice.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, abbreviated to “CBD”, is one of approximately 115 “phytocannabinoids” naturally occurring in hemp (cannabis) plants.

What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are a diverse group of chemical compounds naturally found in the human body (endo-cannabinoids) and also in cannabis plants (phyto-cannabinoids).

How do Cannabinoids work?

Cannabinoids interact with receptors of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) in the body to restore a normal state of healthy balance.

What are terpenes?

Terpenes are the primary constituents of the essential oils providing the scent and flavor of the plant. They may also have other functions such as protection of the plant.

What is the Entourage Effect?

The Entourage Effect results when the many components within the hemp plant interact with the body to produce a stronger influence than any one of those components alone—it’s a synergistic effect.

What is isolated CBD?

In chemistry, to “isolate “means to separate (a substance) into its purest form, free of other compounds. Isolated CBD is pure CBD without the presence of other cannaboids or terpenes.

What is Full Spectrum CBD?

Full Spectrum is often used to convey that the whole plant was used, not just stalk or stem. Whole cannabis sativa plant contains 480 phyto compounds including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and fatty acids.

What is Broad Spectrum/T-Free CBD?

It means that it has the benefits of full spectrum without any of the concerns of THC. Broad Spectrum is a term our supplier coined to define a CBD extract that has concentrated levels of CBD, with no detectable THC.
